Job DescriptionJob Description

The GIS Specialist collects, manages, analyzes, models, presents, publishes, and distributes, geographic data, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Enterprise applications (ESRI suite). This position builds and maintains GIS databases using methods including manual data entry, data creation, image digitization, and data upload from electronic sources. The GIS Specialist will help design and support the Enterprise GIS applications including programming/application development, spatial/tabular data processing, geospatial analysis, map document creation, data development, relevant access permissions, and automated workflow processing. This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but will require in-person and remote teamwork with multiple internal and external stakeholders. Must be local to Houston,TX.

What to Expect in the Role:

  • Conduct geospatial analyses of multiple datasets and themes (e.g., operational, measurement, land, environmental, regulatory, cadastral, imagery, cultural, etc.).
  • Create detailed thematic and integrated maps and visualizations to support business applications.
  • Support strategic GIS projects and deliverables, analyze and interpret geospatial data to assist the team in making informed decisions related to project planning and business applications.
  • Integrate data from internal and external data sources into GIS projects and geodatabase environments, including data creation and input and testing to ensure data quality and completeness.
  • Designs and implements custom applications for desktop, mobile and internet applications and produces mapping products that adhere to corporate cartographic & data management standards.
  • Participate in GIS team meetings and outreach.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

 

What We Will Be Needing From You:

  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS: Pro, Enterprise, Online and other applications or extensions and designing, creating, editing, optimizing, maintaining, and managing spatial datasets.
  • Experience in Python scripting and ModelBuilder a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to create cartographic maps with both vector and raster datasets, including experience with performing basic and advanced geospatial analysis working with geospatial databases and services.
  • Experience with geospatial data entry and integration with common land administration software and ability to work with survey and georeferenced data.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to learn new technology tools and workflows.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • MS, Geographic Information Systems and/or Certified GIS Professional (GISP) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in geospatial land analysis required.
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry, including landwork or land administration is strongly preferred.
