Job DescriptionJob Description

The Machinist/Programmer II fabricates or machines components to meet the needs of various engineering departments.  This role will apply technical knowledge to identify process and equipment problems, recommend and implement solutions, collect and document data, and verify results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Develop, document, and improve current processes and equipment

·         Participate in troubleshooting and analysis of problems to rapidly identify, evaluate, propose, and implement solutions

·         Analyze, conclude and recommend new or revised processes or products to improve safety, quality, service and efficiency

·         Read part sketches, assembly prints, engineering drawings, technical materials, and machine stock materials to design specifications

·         Operates both conventional and CNC machine tools

·         Prepare set-ups and perform machining and/or assembly operations

·         Inspect machined parts using precision inspection instruments and gauges

·         Improvise temporary fixtures in order to perform machining and/or assembly operations

·         Retrieve and interrogate model files using CAD/CAM and associated software

·         Create up to 2 ½ axis programs for basic machine components through the use of CAM software

 

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

·         No supervisory responsibilities

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

·         High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of machining experience, including use of mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, belt sanders or related equipment

·         Ability to demonstrate mechanical aptitude

·         Ability to interpret schematics and blue prints

·         Knowledge of geometric prints and specification sheets 

·         Understanding of all machine tool operating cycles and controls

·         Ability to operate conventional, conversational and CNC machine tools

·         Knowledge and application of the theory behind material cutting and removal

·         Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program, preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

·         The majority of work is performed in a production facility

·         Frequently lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds

·         Frequently carry objects up to 200 feet

·         Frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

·         Exposure to extreme heat, loud noise, dirt, dust, odors, and fumes is probable
