Schaffner L.Y.F.E. Center is seeking a Direct Care Staff to join our team The primary responsibility of the Direct Care Staff is to initiate, organize, plan, develop and implement direct services to assigned clients and their families. Direct Care Staff will be responsible for conducting at least one group a day and the implementation of the programs treatment schedule which focuses on cognitive restructuring and teaches youth how to replace irrational/antisocial thinking with prosocial thoughts. Individual will be working in a site-based shelter. Evenings and weekends are required.
Responsibilities:
- Client Services
- Displays leadership skills.
- Assess the needs of clients.
- Practice and model conflict resolution skills.
- Model with clients and staff—accountability, respect and trust.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Follows code of ethics.
- Collect and analyze data to improve program outcomes.
- Demonstrates cultural sensitivity to LYFE’s clients and families and socioeconomic characteristics.
- Responsible for group facilitation.
- Assist clients with continuum of care treatment goals.
- Design and implementation of individualized program plan, assess the needs of the client and maintain service records, communicate with appropriate individuals regarding the client and prepare written communications including discharge reports.
- Ensure that each assigned client is receiving an appropriate dosage level of group curriculum.
- Assist client/families with transportation as needed.
- Ensure that each youth understands and follows all rules and regulations.
- Provide supervision to maintain a safe and secure environment for all youth assigned to the program.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Training/Supervision
- Attend all staff development and training sessions as scheduled by the Program Director.
- Participate in reviews of each youth’s service plan as scheduled by the Program Director.
- Follow incident reporting procedures and provide the Program Director with information on potential issues of safety and ethical/confidentiality dilemmas.
- Documentation
- Accurately complete all required documentation and submit them to Program Director at the designated time and place.
- Other Essential Functions of job but not limited to:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director
- Adhere to all L.Y.F.E.’s personnel policies, Code of Conduct, and Integrity Compliance Plan.
- Follow special incidents reporting procedures.
- * Essential Functions reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements which may be inherent to the position.
Qualifications & Special Training/Skills:
- Minimum Associate’s degrees (Bachelor’s degree preferred), and one year experience working with youth with complex needs or commensurate experience.
- State/Federal mandated clearances and criminal background searches.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Automobile Insurance meeting company required bodily injury limits.
- Access to a vehicle.
- Participates as a parent team for shelter residents in daily activities on and off campus.
- Physically capable of restraining youth if necessary (must be trained in Safe Crisis Management and follow policy guidelines concerning seclusion/restraint).
- When designated as the medication administrator for shift, will adhere to LYFE medication administration policies and procedures.
- Will maintain a conducive environment that promotes the emotional, mental, and physical growth of the clients.
Experience/Training:
- Aggression Replacement Training (Education and Treatment Alternatives).
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings, training sessions as assigned by Program Director.
- Youth Level of Service Training.
- Gang Identification.
- CPR/First Aid.
- Basic Advocacy Training.
Mental Demands Typical of This Position:
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks, utilize creativity, maintain a high level of decision- making, ability to adapt to a constantly changing work environment, maintain a high level of record keeping/routine paperwork, provide close attention to detail, ability to travel, ability to work under pressure for results, establish own goals, meet frequent deadlines, work in a closely supervised environment, and work closely with others.
Physical Demands Typical of This Position:
- Constantly Incurred (More than 75% of time on job)
- Ability to communicate orally, ability to hear conversation, and ability to operate motor vehicle.
- Frequently Incurred (25%-75% of time on job)
- Ability to stand, ability to walk, ability to lift up to 10 pounds, ability to use both legs, ability to climb stairs.
- Occasionally Incurred (Less than 25% of time on job)
- Repetitive finger movement, ability to stoop and ability for rapid mental/muscular coordination simultaneously.
Working Conditions Typical of This position:
- Frequently Incurred (Between 25% - 75% of time on job)
- Working 20 to 30 hours per week and working outside and inside.
