Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are looking for an enthusiastic VDP Prepress Technician to join our Smartpress team. In this role you will be responsible for cleansing mailing lists and performing mail sorts using BCC Mail Manager. You will also be utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite, along with available plugins, to prepare customer art files and perform data merging to produce high quality variable PDF output.

In this position, you must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with all of Smartpress’s departmental teams as well as our clients.

Our Prepress team is expanding by leaps and bounds alongside our ever-growing company. The main focus of this position will be in direct mail. However, you will be part of a dynamic group that is composed of many different centers of excellence, all combined as one team to influence our business and provide state-of-the-art solutions for our customers. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to and assist in these other disciplines, which include static prepress; storefront portals; layout; graphic design; and color.

Job Requirements:

  • Be able to pay close attention to details to complete projects accurately within deadlines, while meeting Company quality standards
  • Have strong computer skills, including Adobe Acrobat and InDesign
  • Be self-motivated, a fast learner, and show initiative to seek out customer and corporate needs
  • Have the ability to make decisions, and solve problems independently; effectively; and creatively
  • Apply effective time management and self-management skills
  • Understand and maintain the confidential nature of company, employee and customer information
  • Apply mental dexterity and visual acuity for computer use when running programs, cleansing data, and handling customer files.
  • Be able to quickly and accurately review preflight reports, customer instructions, and job tickets

A variety of these following traits will help land you this job:

  • an Associate’s Degree and/or work experience, preferably in digital printing.
  • an understanding of USPS requirements and service offerings
  • proficiency in Adobe InDesign, with variable data plugins XMPie and/or SmartStream
  • experience working with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • experience with PitStop Pro
  • experience cleaning data and performing Mail Sorts in BCC Mail Manager or equivalent software
  • a working knowledge of the Google Suite including Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and Chat
  • experience working in Microsoft Excel

In this position, you will:

  • effectively communicate with other Smartpress departments and clients regarding project status.
  • perform data merging on customer art, using SmartStream Designer and XMPie. At times this will require incorporating complex rule and content object programming.
  • communicate any client concerns with the Prepress Manager and contact the client to discuss resolution.
  • perform miscellaneous projects and complete various tasks as requested by management.
