Allentown Company is seeking a Full-Time Laboratory Machinist, Monday through Friday, first shift with OT as needed.

The Laboratory Machinist shall be responsible for the following activities:

Follow written or verbal instructions provided by his/her supervisor including: set up sheets, detailed machine parts drawings, machine manuals, specifications, tool charts and instruction, using a micrometer, vernier caliper, tape measure, and other measuring equipment. This position will work closely with the Laboratory Manager and other technicians to support testing.

Operate sawing, grinding, sanding, and testing equipment in accordance with safety rules.

Layout test plates/locate test samples with the aid of fixtures, where applicable, per instructions from his/her supervisor, following the order and type of samples to be removed.

Measure and prepare specimens for testing in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and transfer lab numbers identifying each test sample as they are removed.

Troubleshoot and replace worn and broken tooling & parts, diagnoses and repair machine malfunctions, re-sets tooling, gauges work, and makes all machine adjustments necessary to produce parts within specifications. Detects and reports faulty machine operation, defective material and equipment, drawing discrepancies, and other unusual conditions to foreperson.

Unload incoming shipments and mark materials with identifying information.

Observe safety regulations.

Comply with company policies and procedures.

Maintain housekeeping of lab area, and orderliness of shelves. Maintain workplace in a neat and orderly condition on a daily basis, and performs a general machine and work area cleanup once a week.

Assist with maintenance of test equipment.

Seeks clarification when methods or directions are unclear.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Demonstrate the following external qualifications:

High School Diploma

Valid Driver’s License

Previous machining experience preferred.

Reasonable mechanical aptitude and good mathematical abilities.

The ability to understand and follow instruction whether written or verbal.

Must be a U. S. citizen, or lawful permanent resident of the U. S.

Physical Requirements:

The employee must continually lift, push/pull, carry and/or move material of varying weight. Occasionally required to lift, push/pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Occasionally required to kneel, bend, balance, stoop, or crawl.

Frequently required to sit, walk, reach.

Continually required to stand and utilize hand and finger dexterity.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision, Normal color vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, and occasionally very loud.

Continually work near moving mechanical parts.
