Overview
The Village Project, Inc. is looking for a dynamic individual for our two-year Stigma Reduction Education Campaign, a youth led campaign dedicated to reducing stigma surrounding mental health in BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. We are seeking a passionate and driven Project Director to lead our youth and Transition Age Youth (TAY) mental health initiative. In collaboration with the Community Outreach Coordinator, the Project Director will spearhead efforts to recruit and support youth and TAY ambassadors, establish partnerships with stakeholders, and advocate for mental health services and resources within the community and online. The Project Director will play a pivotal role in driving positive change and promoting mental health awareness among youth and TAY populations in Monterey County.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead the youth and TAY mental health initiative within the Education Campaign.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to recruit, engage, and support youth and TAY ambassadors.
- Collaborate with the Community Outreach Coordinator to ensure alignment with campaign goals and objectives.
- Work with external and internal stakeholders to carry out the campaign aimed at reducing mental health stigma.
- Work with selected elementary, middle, and high school with Ambassador youth
Ambassador Recruitment and Support:
- Train recruited youth and TAY ambassadors from Monterey County schools, community colleges (CSUMB), and Watsonville High School.
- Provide ongoing support, mentorship, and resources to ambassadors to empower them in their advocacy efforts.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for ambassadors to share their experiences and ideas.
Partnership Building:
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local, internal, and external stakeholders, including schools, community organizations, churches, mental health providers, advocacy groups, TVPI staff, board, and volunteers.
- Collaborate with partners to coordinate events, workshops, and campaigns aimed at reducing mental health stigma and promoting awareness.
- Travel to the required convenings during grant term.
Advocacy and Outreach:
- Support youth and TAY ambassadors in their advocacy efforts for improved mental health services and resources.
- Organize community outreach activities, presentations, and awareness campaigns to engage BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.
- Utilize online platforms and social media to amplify campaign messages and reach a wider audience.
- Help organize youth mental health summits.
Data Collection and Compliance:
- Attend meetings and maintain regular communication with grant stakeholders to provide updates on campaign progress.
- Collect, analyze, and report data on program outcomes, participant engagement, and grant compliance.
- Ensure adherence to grant requirements and deadlines, including reporting and documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Education) required; College degree or experience in program management with demonstrated knowledge of running campaigns.
- Experience working with youth, TAY, and diverse communities, particularly BIPOC and LGBTQ+ populations.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Experience with office software; Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom.
- Experience with social media platforms i.e. Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, “X”/Twitter
- Knowledge of mental health issues and resources, as well as experience in advocacy and community organizing.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and meetings.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Some travel required.
- Must be willing to go through LiveScan upon offer of employment.
- Clean driving record.
