Position Overview

The OSP Assistant Inspector will learn and assist in performing field inspections of cable/fiber placement and/or cable/fiber splicing and/or construction work.  May assist with data preparation, documentation in reporting field results and may include field meetings with Fibersmith field personnel as well as government agencies, construction contractors, etc.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Successfully learn to inspect construction of fiber build in accordance with acceptable industry standards and how to ensure the construction build meets the criteria set by the construction maps to ensure the client’s expectations are met.
  • Successfully learn to update construction maps with changes, additions and materials used consistent with established processes accurately and on time.
  • Successfully learn to complete cup sheets in an accurate timely fashion for materials used.
  • Successfully learn to maintain files and appropriate records.
  • Successfully learn to identify and communicate construction issues, progress, etc. to Inspector, Resident Engineer and internal design staff as needed.
  • Timely and dependable i.e. at job site when needed and ready to work.
  • Other duties as assigned by Resident Engineer or internal design staff.

  • Self-directed with initiative to perform weekly, monthly, periodical tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain professional appearance and interaction with contractors, vendors, co-workers, etc.
  • Desire to grow, accept additional responsibilities.
  • Show initiative in problem solving and maintaining good relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft: Excel, Outlook.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Physically capable of being in the field and maintaining presence at the job site.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Travel on job sites as assigned.

*This role will begin as a contractor (vendor) and if the candidate is determined successful may move to a salary employee.
