Position Summary: Embark on a rewarding journey as a community habilitation staff, championing the cause of individuals with developmental disabilities via Self-Direction services. In this pivotal role, you'll deliver tailored community habilitation to both children and adults affiliated with New York State's Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). As an essential member of our support team, your efforts will significantly contribute to the autonomy and overall well-being of the individuals we support.

The individual being supported is seeking a dedicated and patient Game Development/Coding Instructor who is passionate about game development and aims to secure an entry-level position in the field. This role is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping to develop skills and confidence in a talented individual.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide one-on-one instruction in game development and coding.

  • Tailor teaching methods to meet the individual learning needs of the client.

  • Develop a structured learning plan with clear milestones and objectives.

  • Assist with understanding and applying key concepts in game design, programming, and development tools.

  • Provide support with portfolio development, including creating projects that showcase the client’s skills.

  • Offer guidance on job search strategies specific to the game development industry.

  • Provide regular feedback on progress and adjust teaching strategies as necessary.

  • Deliver community habilitation to individuals with Autism, Developmental, and Intellectual Disabilities.

  • Support the achievement of personal goals and outcomes as outlined in the individual's Staff Action Plan.

  • Timely completion and submission of service documentation to the Fiscal Intermediary on a weekly basis to ensure timely payroll processing.

  • Participate in all required training sessions provided by the Fiscal Intermediary.

  • Collaborate with Care Managers, Brokers, and the Circle of Support to develop and implement effective services and procedures.

  • Must be available a minimum of 10 hours a week.

  • Able to meet clients at their home or community setting. (Must meet face to face)

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proficiency in game development and coding, with practical experience in the industry.

  • Strong understanding of game development tools and languages (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, C++, C#, etc.).

  • Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to develop and adapt lesson plans based on the client’s progress and feedback.

  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

  • Minimum of High School Diploma/GED.

  • Ability to work in a flexible environment.

  • Ability to work independently is required.

  • Temperament to work effectively with people with mental and other disabilities.

  • The ability to effectively communicate with individuals to further ensure their growth and development is required.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of the job market and entry-level positions in the game development industry.

  • Experience with educational tools and resources for coding and game development.

Employment Consideration Process: Candidates selected for consideration will undergo processing by a Fiscal Intermediary, who acts as the official Employer of Record for staff employed directly by the family. This process includes fingerprinting and a comprehensive background check conducted by the NYS Justice Center to ensure the safety and integrity of our services.
