Bankruptcy Paralegal

Duties & Responsibilities   

• Preparation and filing of documents with various courts, including bankruptcy courts, district courts and state courts
• Coordinate lien searches and UCC filings
• Draft disclosure notices and updates
• Assist with all aspects of case preparation and file management from commencement through settlement or trial
• Assist attorneys in preparation for depositions, motions, hearings, arbitrations, mediations and trials
• Assist with preparation of clients, witnesses, and experts in all phases of litigation
• Assist with discovery, particularly electronic discovery, and the collection, organization, management, and production of documents maintained in electronic databases
• Monitor court dockets
• Citation checking

 Skills & Competencies   

• Possess excellent client service skills and be a self-starter with the ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously in an organized manner and under minimal supervision
• Knowledge of the workings of a corporation, and a general understanding appropriate for a paralegal, of federal and state securities laws, and research in connection therewith
• Experience working with governmental agencies and service companies to file and retrieve documents
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills and demonstrated follow-through on project management, including ability to anticipate needs through knowledge of past transactions
• Demonstrated attention to detail, reliability and ability to learn new technology quickly
• This position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines and work overtime as needed
• Proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook; experience with Westlaw, Lexis, SEC Edgar and Carta

Qualifications & Prior Experience   

• Extensive experience filing in the bankruptcy and other courts
• 7+ years of paralegal experience in a large law firm setting
• Must be proficient with Windows-based software and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and experience using technology for litigation support, document management and trial preparation
• Must be willing to learn additional technologies
