Job Summary:  The Waste Treatment Operator reports directly to the Production Manager and is responsible for maintaining all waste treatments and process water systems in compliance, and operating within city, state, and federal rules and regulations. Responsibilities also include segregation of hazardous materials for proper disposal storage or recycles.

Collecting data needed for reports and completing required documentation, labeling of materials, housekeeping and following all rules and safety regulations set forth by Harbor Electronics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proper storage of chemicals in the chemical yard, this include new deliveries and existing chemistry,  proper labeling, chemistry  segregation,  emergency shower inspections , fire extinguisher inspections, fork lift  inspections and Scrubbers PM.
  • Maintains proper records and reports, organized for treated process waters, hazardous waste in house treatment, or sent out for disposal or recycle.
  • Performs inspections/audits  to ensure compliance  and proper record keeping  of  chemical analysis for metal content, water readings, PH records  for final discharge ,  batch treatment and incident reporting,  including written records of activity and actions  taken during the shift 
  • Assists activities for hazardous waste pick up and recycle materials with other parties involved.
  • Maintains all equipment clean and area organized.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment pumps, tanks, and filter press clarifier.
  • Performs all other job duties as specified on Harbor process procedures.
  • Maintains waste treatment system in compliance with Harbor Electronics procedures as well as the city and state regulations.
  • Treats chemical waste and sludge as per procedure.
  • Completes chemical labels, and manifest for proper disposal, transportation or treatment.
  • Takes frequent water sampling and chemical sampling and perform analysis for metals and Ph.
  • Maintains up to date records of shift pass downs, inspections for forklift, fume scrubbers, emergency showers, fire extinguishers, and all other records and logs for waste treatment activities.
  • RO/Di waters systems monitoring including record keeping for water usage, ordering and replacement cylinders, or other materials, reporting abnormalities to lead or department manager. 
  • Other duties requested by the department manager to support manufacturing or engineering goals. This is also to include all three working shifts.
  • Work overtime as needed.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Waste Treatment is a physical demanding job that involves working outside the building, exposed to the weather condition and in a chemical environment while treating hazardous waste.
  • Drives forklifts, use manual carts to load, unload and organize delivery materials to production floor or designated shelving.
  • Frequent lifting, walking, pushing, pulling, and climbing latter’s are required in order to perform the job efficiently.
  • Use respirator face shield and other safety equipment as needed, when decontaminating hazardous waste or other materials for proper disposal or recycle.
  • Moving and organizing  55 gal drums, 50 lb boxes, 5 gal pails for storage and distribution to the different processes is a constant activity during a regular working day

 

Education/Experience:

  • Prior print circuit board or Chemical handling experience.
  • High school graduated or equivalent preferred.
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic understanding of chemical safety
  • Read, write and speak English
