Job Overview

The Photography Instructor plays a crucial role in the Be Strong After School Club, fostering students' creativity and technical skills in photography. This position involves teaching students the fundamentals of photography, including camera operation, composition, lighting, and editing techniques. The instructor will develop engaging lesson plans, conduct hands-on sessions, and guide students in creating their own photographic projects. Additionally, the instructor will encourage students to express themselves through visual art, promoting self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment. The ideal candidate will have strong instructional abilities, a passion for photography, and the ability to inspire and mentor young learners.

 

Additional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop a structured photography curriculum
  • Maintain and care for photography equipment
  • Teach digital editing software basics
  • Organize photo shoots and field trips
  • Prepare students for photography exhibitions
  • Collaborate with other program staff
  • Adapt teaching methods for diverse learners
  • Keep up with current photography trends
  • Ensure safe practices in all activities
  • Document student progress and achievements
  • Submit timely reports and payment documentation
  • Participate in program events and parent meetings
  • Complete any required training before the deadline (as provided by the onboarding process or your direct supervisor upon hire).
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


Required Experience, Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma required; associates degree preferred
  • 1-2 years of work experience with children in the specialized area of photography.
  • Approved/Hired by MDCPS
  • Must be able to pass Level II Background check on MDCPS or BCPS
  • Strong oral and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or Creole) beneficial
  • Certification or training with special needs children preferred
  • Proficiency in digital photography techniques and equipment
  • Strong knowledge of photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom)
  • Experience integrating social-emotional learning into instruction
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills
  • Ability to work with diverse youth populations
  • Familiarity with various photography styles (e.g., portrait, landscape, documentary)
  • Demonstrates high integrity and excellence in work
  • Capable of working in various situations and with different age groups
  • Adheres to all program policies and procedures

Physical Demands:

This position is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, and hear. The position requires extensive computer use so the employee must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen.
