SUMMARY

The Youth Advocate - Education and Prevention position supports the agency’s community education and prevention efforts by providing domestic violence and teen dating violence prevention education specifically for youth (13-21 years of age.) Also provides direct service to youth through curriculum-based group sessions and supports the Children’s Program with special events, field trips, individual youth advocacy, and group facilitation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the holistic healing, resilience, and developmental growth of youth impacted by domestic violence and other trauma.
  • Maintains predictable and consistent expectations, boundaries, and guidelines along with confidentiality as appropriate when providing direct services to youth.
  • Identifies, cultivates, and maintains community partnerships with program sites in Pierce County middle/junior high and high schools and the community at large for Teen Dating Violence presentations, Healthy Love programming, and to facilitate engagement in education and prevention efforts.
  • Coordinates and facilitates teen dating violence and healthy relationship presentations, educational curriculum, outreach and related workshops at relevant community locations such as area schools, civic clubs, after-school programs, faith communities, etc.
  • Provides resources and follow-up support to teachers and students as requested.
  • Provides advocacy, safety planning, resources, and referrals for youth.
  • Distribution, collection and entry of survey responses, as well as other pertinent data collection and recordkeeping relative to the Education and Prevention Program. This may include creation of spreadsheets to track specific information as necessary.
  • Provides program data and details to the Education and Prevention Manager, Children’s Program Manager
  • Facilitates the Healthy Love and Teen Dating Violence presentation at the Domestic Violence Victims Services training or related training provided by the YWCA Pierce County.
  • Creates and implements outreach activities during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (February) and other points in time as determined by program needs.
  • Attends cohort and collaboration meetings, trainings, and community events, as related to prevention work.
  • Develops and maintains clean, orderly, engaging, and safe program spaces.
  • Participates in agency committees, work groups, or community collaborations as requested by supervisor.
  • Provides back-up coverage for Community Advocacy as needed.
  • Works closely with program volunteers and supports their service.
  • Develops, plans, and implements art and recreation-based curriculum for youth-oriented onsitegroups in conjunction with the Children’s Program Manager and other program staff.
  • Assists youth with skill-development as relevant to their unique needs, goals, and desires.
  • Co-facilitates teen survivor group Redefining Love in partnership with the Child and Family Therapist onsite and/or relevant community locations such as area schools, civic clubs, after- school programs.
  • Participates in agency committees, work groups, or community collaborations as requested by supervisor.
  • Provides support and works collaboratively within the team and other YWCA programs to meet program goals and provide support beyond assigned duties, as determined by supervisor.
  • Develops and implements program evaluation system in partnership with the Education and Prevention Manager.
  • In partnership with Education and Prevention Manager, evaluates and makes suggestions for changes to programming to ensure ongoing success and cultural relevancy.
  • Provides back-up coverage for Community Advocacy as needed.
  • Provides assistance in Children’s Drop-In Care as needed with permission from supervisor.
  • Supports and provides back-up assistance to Children’s Program teams with permission from supervisor.
  • Works closely with program volunteers and supports their service.
  • Commitment to Anti-oppression work and upholding the anti-racism mission of the YWCA as it relates to prevention and education.
  • Actively participates in Education and Prevention meetings, all YWCA staff meetings, and scheduled internal trainings.
  • Models, explains, and upholds both Program and Agency rules, policies, and procedures to children and parent(s).
