Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSummary: A DSP’s role is to function as a team member, providing instruction and support to people with developmental disabilities who are receiving services from Life Works. DSP’s are expected to know and understand Life Works policies, mission and the residential service guidelines and how to incorporate the principles they represent into daily support for people with disabilities. DSP’s are responsible for supporting individuals to participate in the full range of activities that make up their life in the community, including those activities both at home and in their neighborhoods and communities necessary to establish a lifestyle in alignment with the person’s goals.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Client Centered

  • Have a clear understanding and knowledge of all client support plans and client needs clients that is outlined in their ISP and other support plans

  • Provide instruction and support with day-to-day living in the areas and methods identified in the person’s Individual Instruction and Support Plan

  • Advocates for clients, providing additional support so they can acquire personal needs and interact socially with family, friends and in the community

  • Interact with clients on an ongoing basis

  • Meet all WAC state training requirements yearly

  • Identify and respond to any need for medical attention

  • Participate in mandatory scheduled staff meeting and trainings

  • Assist in client medications

  • Provide transportation assistance for clients

  • Implement, as written, positive behavior support plans (PBSP)

  • Perform indoor and outdoor cleaning tasks as needed around the program

  • Accompany clients on outings and activities

  • Anticipates client needs and delivers high quality service

  • Provide assistant to arrange for transportation for day to day living for clients

  • Attend client appointments

  • Assist clients with money handling and budgeting; write checks for client’s personal items, receives funds for client, deposit client’s funds and may confirm that client check registers are true and correct.

Integrity

  • Report any suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation to state reporting agency’s immediately.

  • Maintain confidentiality with all applicable HIPPA laws.

  • Follow all company policies

  • Follow through with commitments

  • Must maintain satisfactory attendance at regularly scheduled hours

  • Uses good judgment in providing “need to know’ information
