We are looking for an analytical Controller to work in collaboration with HEF Leadership to lead accounting-related activities that support the Foundation’s strategies and initiatives to strengthen instruction and support Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS). The Controller will be responsible for financial management, record keeping, preparation of financial reports, audit functions and budgeting for the Foundation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directs the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and governmental agency reports
  • Oversees all accounts, ledgers, financial software and reporting systems ensuring policies and procedures are in compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Actively participates in the Finance Committee and provides data for Finance Committee, Treasurer and Board of Directors
  • Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Prepares checks for signature by CEO, COO, Chief Development Officer, Board Chair or Treasurer
  • Lead Foundation planning and development of annual operating budget including developing a timeline, consulting with department heads and presenting budget to the Board; works closely with CEO and Board Finance Committee
  • Manages the organizations liability insurances, Officers and Directors insurance, and event riders, as needed
  • Ensures the maintenance of financial records and recordkeeping systems, including grant/fund accounting, to ensure compliance with all regulations, generally accepted accounting practices and contractual requirements
  • Oversees the review and approval of grant reimbursements for VDOE, local, state, and federally funded programs
  • Oversees the reconciliation of all bank, credit card and investment accounts monthly
  • Provide analysis and reporting on fundraising campaigns.
  • Manages the Financial Coordinator which includes hiring, performance management, task management, quality control, etc.
  • Prepare materials for audit and consult with auditors
  • Maintains highly organized filing system; invoices/reimbursements, payroll, insurance information, reconciliations, and other financial records
  • Strategizes cost control measures and savings initiatives
  • Manages all aspects of 403b retirement plan as the organization’s Plan Administrator

Requirements

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 3+ years of experience managing the accounting functions in a non-profit agency or Master’s degree in lieu of experience
  • Advanced knowledge and utilization of Excel
  • Knowledge and experience with accounting applications
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Superior leadership skills
  • Team player

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $80k - $85k

  • This is a full-time position located in our main office.
