Job Description / Performance Evaluation Worksheet
Position Title: Therapeutic Educator
Department: Summit Academy
Supervised By: Program Director

Summary of Responsibilities: Provides educational services to the patients assigned to the classroom. These services include instruction, administration of educational test and measurement tools, formulation of individualized educational plans, and participation in treatment teams as required.
Special qualifications:
- Current Alabama State Teaching Certificate
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to exercise professional judgment in recognition and respect for the importance of confidentiality and discretion, and express instructions of the Administration.
- Ability to use various standard word processing and spreadsheet software required, working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access Software preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Due to safety concerns candidates must be able to perform these pre-requisite physical tasks:
Heavy lifting up to (70) pounds, pulling and reaching above shoulder, ability to process and respond to written and verbal instruction and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Performance Evaluation Worksheet
- Instruct students per period in a variety of academic areas and grade levels.
- Administer formal and informal diagnostic educational tests.
- Utilize remedial prescriptive teaching when indicated.
- Participate in Adolescent and Adult Treatment team meetings for the purpose of communicating relevant clinical/educational information.
- Tutor patients for GED test when indicated and aide in requirements needed to enroll in the testing.
- Tutor when indicates – students on close units.
- Daily document relevant clinical information in the medical record.
- Participate in parent conferences as indicated.
- Develop and Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) for students through age 21, if referred to Summit Academy and noting this plan daily in the progress notes.
- Communicate with GED programs in surrounding areas.
- Prepare and administer assignments form homeschools when necessary or appropriate.
- Be responsible for reading patients chart to familiarize themselves with patients history.
- Any duties as directed by Coordinator of Summit Academy.
- Maintain certification requirements.
- Participate in teacher conferences relating to placement of student upon discharge.
- Direct/participate in community teach in services.
- Marketing – addressing counselors, principals, teachers regarding services available.
- Sending final progress note/report card per each student to their homeschool upon discharge.
- Attends Educational Workshop on a regular basis to update new therapeutic educational techniques.
- Assist in staffing of unit on an as needed basis.
- Abides by personnel policies and procedures.
- Acts as a role model on behalf of patients and staff.
- Preforms other duties as assigned.
