Position Summary
This position supports operational excellence in the conventional machine shop to drive productivity, quality and continuous improvement. We expect this individual to be a leader who collaborates with the Sargent team to exceed organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a clean and safe work area at all times.
- Model Safe behaviors at all times.
- Follow company quality control standards to include in process inspection and documentation.
- Knowledge of safety standards for equipment being run.
- Must be able to make decisions, communicate effectively across departments, and work well with others in a team environment.
- Performs operations per specifications on drawing/print and documented procedures.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances and use micrometers and vernier/digital calipers.
- Setup and run manual mills, lathes, surface grinders and other machines as needed.
- Ability to monitor operations and quickly react to non-confirming operations as they occur.
- Produce and inspect parts with the ability to offer continuous improvement opportunities.
- Deburr precision components and tooling to proper specifications.
- Provide directions and assist others with process practices and issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a U. S. Citizen.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be able to read and write English.
- 2 years’ experience running a conventional lathe, mill, and surface grinder.
- Experience in tool making and self-directed processing for tool build.
- Application of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics (algebra, geometry and trigonometry).
- Ability to read, interpret technical drawings, routers, work instructions and specifications.
- Knowledge of measurement techniques for inspection.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and multi-tasking abilities.
- Available to work overtime as required.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to bend, squat, sit, stand, walk, and handle objects.
- The employee is occasionally required to push/pull and reach above shoulder level.
- The employee must be able to carry/lift up to 40 pounds and be able to rotate the item being handled.
- Work on feet for entire shift.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tight tolerance aerospace components.
- Knowledge of aerospace materials and machine tool selection.
- Knowledge of GD&T.
