A Custom builder and renovation contractor is seeking a residential designer. This person will specialize in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing designs for residential spaces from kitchen and baths to additions and new home design. Their primary responsibility is to work closely with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and budget constraints, and then translate those requirements into architectural plans and designs. Here's a detailed breakdown of a residential designer's job description:

  • Initial client contact and meeting:

    • Meet with clients to discuss their vision, requirements, and budget for the residential project. Understand their lifestyle, preferences, and any specific needs they may have.

  • Concept plan development:

    • Develop initial design concepts and ideas based on the client's input. This involves creating sketches, mood boards, or digital renderings to convey design concepts and gather feedback from the client. This includes space planning, interior and exterior finishes, cabinetry and millwork layout and lighting.

  • Construction documentation

    • Prepare detailed architectural drawings, plans, and specifications that outline the construction requirements for builders and contractors. This includes floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction details necessary for obtaining permits and executing the project. This includes code compliance and permitting.

  • Project Management:

    • Oversee the implementation of the design plan throughout the construction process. Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and other professionals involved in the project to ensure that the design vision is realized accurately and efficiently.

  • Budget Management:

    • Manage project budgets effectively by providing cost estimates for materials and labor, monitoring expenses throughout the design and construction phases, and making adjustments as necessary to stay within budget constraints.

  • Client Communication:

    • Maintain open and clear communication with clients throughout the design process, providing regular updates on project progress, addressing any concerns or questions they may have, and soliciting feedback to ensure client satisfaction.
