The Champaign County Regional Planning Commission seeks candidates for the position of Software Developer I (JavaScript and Python). Champaign County RPC is a people-focused agency made up of over 100 programs designed to generate possibilities for all within our community. A great deal of planning goes into creating opportunities where people can succeed on their own, and RPC is doing that work. From analysis to policy guidance to offering services to our communities, RPC’s people plan for people.

The Software Developer I will develop online applications in JavaScript and Python to analyze and visualize data. The successful candidate will work with staff across the agency to define requirements, develop new features, resolve issues, and provide training. Prior experience working with geospatial data and component-based architecture (e.g., React) is preferred. Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to complete a short at-home assignment to demonstrate technical skills.

Requirements

  • Work with staff, interns, partner agencies, and clients to define technical requirements and implement software solutions.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain data-driven web sites, tools, and applications.
  • Write code that adheres to coding standards and best practices.
  • Create and maintain tests to ensure application functionality.
  • Write documentation, train users, and provide technical support.
  • Manage, clean, and integrate data with applications.

Required Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to work independently to solve technical problems.
  • Intermediate programming skills in Node/JavaScript, Python, or PHP
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as Express, Django, and WordPress
  • Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of version control systems like Git
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Summary

Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., (37.5 hours per week) Flexibility is necessary to meet the needs of the program.

FLSA Classification: Exempt
Starting Wage: $33.28 - $34.00 (DOQ)
