First Steps Recovery is the Valley's preeminent treatment provider for members of our community suffering from substance abuse disorders. We are looking for a NP or PA to function as a provider for our patients in treatment at inpatient and outpatient levels of care.
Working under the scope and supervision of our double board certified medical director (Internist/Addiction Medicine), the NP/PA functions in the roles of practitioner, consultant, educator, patient advocate, and care coordinator. Ideal candidate will possess and exhibit a high degree of knowledge, skill, and competence in the provision of health care directly to the patient, family or community, or indirectly through guidance of care by other professional personnel. Provision of patient care is conducted and performed within the scope of licensure and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation.
PMH-NPs (or currently enrolled FNPs) encouraged to apply.
Primary Responsibilities will include:
- Initial screening and medical assessments for admitting clients: initial H&P, psychiatric history and assessment, and any additional requirements for admission to inpatient detox or residential alcohol and substance abuse treatment program
- Detox care provision and oversight
- Medication prescription and management
- On-going assessment of clients, medical oversight, and clearance for indicated levels of care, consultation regarding justification for level of care
- Participation in treatment development with interdisciplinary treatment team
- Active role in development of treatment plan and oversight for continuing care
- Education of staff on best practices in care, medication, and symptomatology
- Education of clients on medication and treatment plan
- Timely and accurate documentation and review of medication orders, and assessments per company policy, DHCS, and Joint Commission guidelines

REQUIREMENTS: Active CA NP or PA license. A minimum of one (1) year related experience is required and increasingly responsible experience which demonstrates professional working knowledge of nursing theory and practice, with competence in physical assessment pharmacology, mental health and management of chronic and acute adult health conditions.
Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and assume responsibility for inpatient/outpatient care. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication skills for effective interactions with patients and their family members, and colleagues in multiple medical disciplines. Self starter with a high level of initiative, and low margin for error
POSITION DETAILS: Scheduling flexibility is available, but will require non-standard hours (some evenings/weekends/on-call). Part-time/1099 is preferred, a hybrid in-person and virtual role may be utilized.
