Job DescriptionJob Description

Job Summary: A Radiology Technologist performs diagnostic imaging examinations on patients using various types of radiographic equipment. They work closely with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to produce high-quality images that help diagnose medical conditions accurately.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare Patients: Position patients properly and prepare them for imaging procedures. This involves explaining procedures, ensuring patient comfort, and minimizing patient movement to obtain clear images.

  2. Operate Equipment: Use X-ray machines, CT scanners, MRI scanners, fluoroscopes, and other radiologic equipment to capture images of the patient's internal anatomy. Follow established protocols and safety measures to ensure the appropriate exposure and quality of images.

  3. Image Processing and Evaluation: Review images to ensure they are of diagnostic quality. Adjust equipment settings as needed to enhance image quality. Recognize artifacts or errors and retake images if necessary.

  4. Patient Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records, documenting procedures performed, patient medical history, and other relevant information. Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  5. Radiation Safety: Adhere to radiation safety guidelines to minimize radiation exposure to patients, themselves, and other healthcare personnel. Use shielding devices and techniques to protect patients and maintain a safe work environment.

  6. Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance activities to monitor and improve the quality of imaging services. This includes conducting equipment checks, calibrations, and maintaining records of equipment maintenance.

  7. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to discuss imaging results, clarify orders, and ensure optimal patient care.

  8. Patient Care: Provide basic patient care as needed, such as assisting patients on and off imaging tables, helping patients change into appropriate attire, and monitoring patients' condition during procedures.

  9. Continuing Education: Stay updated on advancements in imaging technology, safety procedures, and healthcare regulations through continuing education and professional development activities.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
  • State licensure or certification as required by law.
  • Proficiency in operating radiologic equipment and imaging techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions and protocols accurately.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.
