The Role:

Catalytic is looking for a proactive, driven, and talented Bioinformatics Engineer who is motivated by the challenge to deliver highly available, secure, and scalable enterprise bioinformatics software. This mid-level position is a key member of our engineering team who will enable us to continuously deliver quality bioinformatics and visualization software. The ideal candidate would have experience securing, augmenting, and containerizing open-source analytics and visualization software for deployment on the Catalytic Platforms.

 

Our nimble teams work closely to rapidly build and deploy products. We are seeking someone who can communicate clearly and balance business objectives with product quality. You will work with other application engineers to understand the science, product, and business needs, provide expertise around the platform and AWS cloud service development.

You have extensive knowledge in:

  • Containerization and container security
  • Biology and bioinformatics
  • Amazon Web Services

 

 

What You'll Do:

  • Identify dependencies and containerize selected open-source analytics
  • Work with the Science team to determine inputs, outputs, and parameters of analytics
  • Work closely with UX / UI team to design clear interfaces to work seamlessly with back-end services
  • Test, troubleshoot, debug throughout the application development process including assisting customers in determining causes of failed pipelines
  • Work closely with other backend engineers to improve all aspects of the analytics platform including the developments/testing phase, error handling, cost and speed optimizations, usage reporting, etc.
  • Develop a high-level understanding of all parts of the platform and offer assistance when necessary

 

What You Know:

  • BS in science, computer science or related engineering or math discipline and 3+ years related work experience (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree)
  • Experience containerizing (Docker) and securing open-source applications
  • Extensive experience with Python
  • Knowledge of R is a plus; knowledge in creating rShiny web apps is a double-plus
  • Knowledge of Java is a plus
  • Experience using Bash/Linux
  • Experience using Amazon Web Services
  • Experience making mistakes
  • Experience being part of a development team
  • Experience collaborating with a Product Owner, UX designer, or Requirements Analyst, etc.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), time management, interpersonal, and team participation skills
