Special Education Teacher Job Description Title: Special Education Teacher (6th-12th)

Reports To / Evaluated by: Director of R.I.S.E.N.

Education: Bachelor's degree required Contracted By: Superintendent

The Special Education Teacher will coordinate and provide developmentally appropriate educational services and support to students whose abilities differ from their peers. The qualified individual must be an evangelical Christian committed to living a Biblical lifestyle. He/she is expected to demonstrate patience, humility, integrity, and kindness while performing his or her day-to-day duties. He/she must be devoted to

prayerfully work with administration, faculty, students and parents to develop and maintain a school that is thoroughly Christian and

academically superb.

Personal Qualifications

1. Be deeply committed to a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ.

2. Spend time daily in personal devotions and prayer.

3. Show in his/her life the joy of the Christian life.

4. Follow the Matthew 18 Principle in dealing with students, faculty, parents and administration.

5. Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and to grow in their faith.

6. Possess the ability to work gracefully with parents, students, and other school staff to develop a unified and successful educational program.

7. Demonstrate the ability to accept and carry out responsibilities and make competent, professional decisions.

8. Be willing to eagerly participate in professional development.

9. Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children's education and be prepared to assist them in that task

10. Maintain a personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and in agreement with school policy. 11. Possess a teachable attitude and desire to work collaboratively.

12. Respectfully submit and be loyal to constituted authority. Shall notify the administration of any policy he/she is unable to support.

Qualifications

1. Bachelors degree in Special Education

2. Experience working with students with diverse needs Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Establish positive relationships between students, teachers, parents, principals, and other providers to ensure a collaborative effort focused on the child.

2. Assist with developing and implementing accommodative plans by working collaboratively to learn about the needs of the students.

3. Work collaboratively with teachers to ensure that accommodative plans are implemented within the classroom environment.

4. Develop and implement necessary interventions and strategies to promote student achievement.

5. Provide small group and individual academic support using a push-in and pull-out model for grades 6 th -12th .

6. Monitor, evaluate and document each student’s progress utilizing appropriate measurements and assessment devices.

7. Participate in bi-annual progress meetings with the Director, parents, staff, and faculty.

8. Provide guidance and coaching to student aides on implementation of accommodations and special education strategies to meet academic and behavior needs.

9. Provide in-service to faculty and aides on special education laws, best practice, implementation of accommodations and progress monitoring.

10. Collaborate with teachers in utilizing positive behavior interventions and support to improve student outcomes.

11. Maintain a current knowledge of special education best practices and trends.

12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

13. Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting abuse and neglect.
