Our client is a rapidly growing property management firm in Santa Monica and we are searching for a Accounting Controller to lead the accounting and bookkeeping team. We will consider candidates with property management Assistant Controller, Sr. bookkeeper, or staff account experience. You will have broad department oversight and a meaningful impact on the company. This position has excellent growth potential. This position is a full-time direct hire position and works in the office (no remote work) Monday through Friday and is a 40-hour workweek.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred or professional accreditation such as certified public accountant (CPA), or certified management accountant (CMA).
  • 5 years of Property Management accounting or bookkeeping experience required
  • Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (GAAP).
  • Strong understanding of economic and banking processes, and detailed financial data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • This role is responsible for creating, documenting, and maintaining new processes and systems to enable the expansion of the business
  • Participates and oversees staff to perform all accounting and financial operations including the general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, benefits, and cash flow management.
  • A willingness to roll up their sleeves and handle/balance multiple items at once.
  • Strong understanding of banking processes, financial data analysis, and loan management
  • Ensure all bank reconciliations are done timely and correctly.
  • Responsible for adherence to management, partnership, and vendor agreements.
  • Review all invoices for proper approval prior to making payments.
  • Review and approve monthly operating expense reports for all properties.
  • Prepare accurate monthly reports for management and property owners.
  • Coordinate monthly/quarterly filings and yearly tax returns, periodic governmental filings, registrations, business and tax licenses, etc.
  • Work with the President to ensure financial directives are followed.
  • Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes.
  • Hire, train, and retain skilled accounting and finance staff.
  • Other duties that arise during the normal course of business
