Our client in Upper Marlboro is seeking a skilled and experienced Lobbyist to advocate for the board’s interests in our educational system at the local, state, and federal levels. The successful candidate will leverage their knowledge of the County's community, public education landscape, and various levels of government to influence legislative, executive, and administrative actions. The Lobbyist will represent the Board’s interests by promoting policies, securing funding, and advancing initiatives that benefit students, families, and educators in our county.
Hours: 9:00am - 4:30pm

Key Responsibilities
Advocacy and Representation:
- Develop, support, and implement strategies to advocate for policies and initiatives that support the aligned educational goals of the County Board of Education.
- Represent the Board in meetings with government officials, including the County Council, state delegations, and other elected representatives.
- Engage with community stakeholders, educational organizations, and other relevant groups to build support for Board initiatives and policies.
Legislative and Policy Monitoring:
- Track and analyze proposed legislation, regulations, and policies at the local, state, and federal levels that impact public education.
- Prepare detailed reports and briefings for the Board on legislative developments and their potential impact on the educational system.
Relationship Building:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key policymakers, government agencies, and community leaders.
- Organize and participate in events, meetings, and forums to enhance the Board’s visibility and influence in the community.
Communication and Coordination:
- Coordinate with designated Board members, district administrators, and other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on advocacy goals and strategies.
- Draft position statements, testimony, and other communications to articulate the Board’s position on various issues.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and execute comprehensive advocacy plans to address emerging issues and opportunities.
- Collaborate with other advocacy groups and organizations to strengthen the Board’s influence and effectiveness.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant industry experience in Public Policy, Political Science, Education, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in government relations, lobbying, or public affairs, with a focus on education policy preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the County’s educational system and community dynamics.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven ability to effectively engage with government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of Maryland local, state, and federal legislative processes and public education issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling arguments and presentations.
- Strong organizational and strategic planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.
