Community Living Support/Respite

The ideal CLS provider candidate will be available to work typically after school hours. There is flexibility in how many clients the candidate would serve; each client typically receives 1-3 hours per week. Community Living Supports are used to increase or maintain personal self-sufficiency, facilitating an individual’s achievement of his goals of community inclusion and participation, independence and productivity. The supports may be provided in the participants residence or in community settings (including, but not limited to; libraries, camps, museums, etc.) Coverage for Community Living Supports includes assisting, reminding, observing, guiding and/or training in the following areas;
- Meal preparation
- Independent living skills
- Activities of daily living (personal hygiene, daily routine, etc.)
- Social skills
- Healthy and safety
- Anger management
- Self-esteem building
The candidate must have experience of working with children, have the ability to transport children with their own personal vehicle, create a weekly schedule and plan community outings. The worker is also expected to work at least one Saturday per month providing respite care to children with a severe emotional disturbance. There are two possible shifts- morning shift (9am to 12:30pm ) and afternoon shift (1pm to 4:30pm).
Other responsibilities:
- Ongoing communication with Community Living Support Supervisor
- Working at least one Saturday group respite a month.
- Ongoing communication with therapists
- Independently scheduling with the families on caseload to meet referred number of hours per week
- Documentation of face to face time spent with clients done within 48 hours
- Attendance to monthly group supervision meetings
