Job DescriptionJob Description

Sojourner House, Inc. is a 24 hour homeless shelter for families transitioning to permanent housing.  Sojourner House, Inc. provides temporary shelter for up to nine families. Families are referred from the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) and are provided with supportive services that strengthens the family unit and prepares them to become self-sufficient.

Summary of position: This position is Monday – Wednesday from 6:30pm  - 10:30pm. The applicant must have a flexible schedule and be available to work other shifts as needed.

Responsibilities:

Ø  Responsible for the safety and security of guests and shelter.

Ø  Communicate and enforce policies and procedures.

Ø  Answer phone, greet visitors and community partners.

Ø  Ensure front office is cleaned and organized.

Ø  Monitor and inspect daily chores.

Ø  Maintain a high level of professionalism and personal boundaries when interacting with shelter guests.

Ø  Mediate and deescalate conflicts when they arise.

Ø  Submit incident reports and verbally articulate and enforce policies and procedures.

Ø  Implement emergency procedures and have a continued awareness of situations that may have the potential to escalate.

Ø  Attend internal meetings and required trainings.

Ø  Record and document all pertinent guests and shelter related information.

Qualifications

Ø  Excellent written and verbal skills.

Ø  Attention to detail.

Ø  Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

Ø  Punctual and reliable

Ø  Experience (1-2 years) working in the Human Services field.

Ø  Bilingual skills a plus.

Ø  Must be a team player, take initiative and have a sense of humor.

Physical Requirements: Standing, sitting, bending, climbing, carrying, walking.
