DSP - Community Participation Specialist
Job Summary:
As a DSP- Community Participation Specialist at Equalworks, your role will focus on providing essential support to adults with disabilities, aiding them in developing, refining, and applying skills necessary for successful community integration. You'll facilitate their self-determination by offering support, information, and guidance to enhance their independence and social involvement.


Duties/Responsibilities:
● Empower participants to lead self-determining lives by fostering self-esteem, assertiveness, and decision-making abilities.
● Utilize effective and sensitive communication skills to establish rapport and adapt to diverse communication styles of participants.
● Provide direct support within the community, assisting with physical and personal management while teaching essential skills.
● Demonstrate the value of community involvement, social interactions, and relationship maintenance; foster and facilitate community connections.
● Coordinate activities emphasizing community participation and socialization while ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.
● Tailor supports and interventions to meet the unique needs of participants, recognizing the significance of community relationships.

Other Duties:

Supervisory Responsibility:
No direct supervisory responsibilities in this role.

Work Environment:

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
● Experience working with students or adults with disabilities is preferred.
● Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License required for transportation responsibilities.
● Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle background check.

Level of Degree:
● High School Diploma required.
● Desired: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in education, business, marketing, communications, public relations, rehabilitation, psychology, or a related field.
● Completion of mandatory Orientation and Community Participation Support webinars within 30 days of hire.
● Participation in ongoing Community Participation Support training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Ensure client safety during training journeys.
● Maintain accurate records of all client activities.
● Provide meaningful engagement opportunities for clients.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills.
● Knowledge of disabilities.
● Initiative in establishing and maintaining relationships with community businesses/volunteer work sites.
● Effective collaboration across diverse groups.
● Tactful and accurate imparting and obtaining of information.
● Strong organizational skills and record-keeping abilities.
