Conventional Machinist

Allied West Paper Corp. (AWP) is an industry-leading, FSC®-certified paper converter producing innovative bath tissue, paper towels, paper napkins, and facial tissue for the retail and commercial markets. We have an immediate opening for an experienced Conventional Machinist to join our fast paced, growth-oriented manufacturing company.

The Machinist Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines. Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production. Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping. Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task.

DUTIES

• Operates manual vertical mills and engine lathes including setup, teardown and cleanup.
• Operates all band saws including setup, teardown and cleanup.
• Performs welding operations to fabricate new parts from aluminum and steel and repair broken or damaged parts.
• Fabricates parts and assemblies for special projects with ability to use hand tools and power tools
• Able to fabricate piping (i.e., measure, cut thread) and install air fittings (i.e., elbows, tee’s, coupling, nipples, reducers, valves, etc.
• Straightens bent parts with adequate skill often using heat.
• Able to read blueprints and perform shop math.

REQUIREMENTS

• Five years’ experience with conventional lathes, mills, grinders, bandsaws etc.
• Previous experience with welding and fabrication
• Must have own tools of the trade
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Excellent time-management and decision-making skills
• Strong verbal and listening communication
