Manufacturer of food packaging in the North Suburbs has an immediate need for a Sr. Accountant. This position is responsible for the general accounting and Cost accounting functions within the Accounting/Finance Department. This position provides a greater level of support to management in identifying opportunities for savings and revenue growth. A variety of financial and sales support projects are handled by this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Financial Reporting
- Assist with month-end close and provide analytical support as needed.
- Provide accurate balance sheet reconciliations along with proper analysis/documentation.
- Prepare and maintain month-end schedules.
- Prepare expense analysis report for Operations.
- Prepare monthly expense accruals.
- Analyze financial information and explain key variances.
- Process, document and analyze monthly recurring and adjusting journal entries.
Costing
- Analyze and propose improvements to standard costs.
- Ensure accurate standard costs are used (material, labor and overhead rates)
- Ensure bill of materials and routers are properly maintained with current information.
- Analyze cost variances to assess validity of product costing methods, manufacturing assumptions and inventory valuations.
Cash Management
- Apply daily cash receipts from customers.
- Prepare daily bank reconciliations and daily cash report.
- Prepare weekly cash forecast.
Other
- Assist with AP and AR when needed.
- Assist in budget preparation
- Create clear and concise written procedures for all job functions/responsibilities.
- Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
- Assist with financial audits.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
- Communicate with co-workers, management, customers, vendors and others in a courteous and professional manner.
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
- Conform to all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment.
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CRITERIA:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five (5) years of related experience in accounting; knowledge of manufacturing software, desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Communication skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, peers, vendors and customers (in writing and orally).
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Computer skills: Knowledge of Microsoft word processing, advanced Excel, and e-mail programs. Knowledge of Made2Manage and MAS 200 is a plus.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of cost accounting.
- Work approaches: Routinely interacts with employees within own department; routinely interacts with others in the organization and public.
