Environmental Health and Safety Manager
Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for executing the organization’s safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves developing and overseeing environmental, health, and behavioral safety activities to foster a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA and hazardous waste requirements, and implementing measures to prevent accidents and promote workplace safety. Additionally, the Environmental Health and Safety Manager will stay updated on developments in the field and collaborate with various departments to maintain safety records and improve processes.
Reports To: Human Resources Director, Schwan Cosmetics USA
Essential Responsibilities
Safety Culture Development and Training (25%):
- Develop and oversee environmental, health, and behavioral safety activities to promote a strong safety culture.
- Plan and manage programs to educate and train employees on workplace safety practices, threats, risks, and fire prevention.
Regulatory Compliance (25%):
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, hazardous waste, and environmental regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Lead initiatives outlined in ISO 14000 and global CSR programs.
- Prepare and submit reports required by hazardous, EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations.
Safety Program Improvement (25%):
- Design, improve, and execute workplace, task, and behavior-based observations to identify safety hazards.
- Utilize proactive approaches like Job Hazard Analysis, accident analysis, inspections, and safety education to prevent accidents.
- Establish measurable objectives to evaluate the success of safety programs.
Continuous Improvement and Record Maintenance (25%):
- Stay updated on developments in environmental and safety fields and changes in regulations.
- Maintain and update safety records, SOPs, and written programs.
- Collaborate with HR and departmental management to ensure proper workers' compensation case management and corrective actions.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Science, or related field required; master’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or related field preferred.
- Certification in safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental management is advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of environmental and safety experience in a high-volume manufacturing operation.
- Demonstrated experience managing waste, reducing carbon footprint, and implementing measures to address workplace safety.
