AEI is an intensive English and test preparation center. Our foundation program is an 8-week intensive English to prepare students for entry to U.S. colleges and universities, as well as for personal and professional advancement.  There are five levels from high beginner to advanced. Students study for 4 hours per day and have classes in reading, writing, speaking & listening, and grammar. Individual tutoring is also available to students.  AEI uses a pre-determined selection of books, and instructors are expected to create syllabi to cover the set amount of material for a given session. They are also expected to create lesson plans, quizzes, finals, and grade reports. They also must maintain daily attendance and a teaching log.

ESL teaching hours are assigned by classes assigned. A new session begins every 8 weeks.  All instructor positions are part-time temporary.

1.         Instruct assigned ESL classes.

2.         Prepare session plans, daily lesson plans, quizzes, tests and finals for each course assigned.

3.         Utilize appropriate ESL curriculum using a variety of materials and teaching techniques to meet academic objectives, and to maintain student interest.

4.         Provide all students with a safe and appropriate learning environment. 

5.         Maintain accurate, current, and complete records in accordance with school policy's and procedures including attendance, grading, and teaching log.

6.         Assess and document student progress and provide grade reports.

7.         Maintain confidentiality of student records and personal information at all times.

8.         Assist in enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and policies.

9.         Maintain cooperative and positive relationships and open communication with all administrators, staff and students. Keep Director informed of all pertinent information.

10.       Attend and participate in ESL teacher meetings, professional development activities, curriculum/program planning, & special events and activities.

11.       Assist with the selection of appropriate books, equipment, and other instructional materials for the ESL program.

12.       Other duties as assigned by the Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.         Bachelor's degree required in TEFL/TESL, Linguistics or Foreign Language, MA preferred.

2.         Minimum of one year of ESL teaching experience or other language teaching experience. 

3.         Demonstrated ESL teaching ability.

4.         TEFL/TESL Certificate (if BA/BS not in TEFL)

5.         Strong interpersonal skills. 

6.         Ability to work with adults from a variety of cultures, in a variety of situations.

7.         Native or near native English speakers.
