Job Overview

The Industrial Electricity and Instrumentation (I&E) Technician is responsible for maintaining and optimizing electrical and instrumentation systems in an industrial setting. Key duties include installing, calibrating, repairing, and performing maintenance on equipment, while adhering to safety protocols. The role requires physical stamina, technical expertise, and the ability to work in high-hazard environments. Candidates must have extensive experience in industrial instrumentation or electrical work, supported by relevant training and certifications. Flexibility with rotating shifts is required. The technician will collaborate with engineers and supervisors to ensure optimal equipment performance and support process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Extensive technical and practical knowledge in Industrial Electricity and Instrumentation.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and using stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Capability to work in high-hazard environments, including adverse weather conditions, elevated or confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Proficiency in adhering to safety protocols and standards, especially in environments with highly hazardous materials.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of a computer-based test required prior to the interview.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in industrial instrumentation and/or commercial or industrial electrical work.
  • Documentation of training in Instrumentation (e.g., ISA CCST Level II, a qualified in-house program, or an academic degree in related technology).
  • Documentation of training in electrical work (e.g., Journeyman program, trade school, or a qualified in-house program).

 

Responsibilities

  • Work a rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed.
  • Install, connect, disconnect, remove, test, calibrate, and repair electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic systems and equipment.
  • Disassemble instruments and equipment, inspect components for defects, repair or replace parts, and reassemble.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to keep equipment in optimal condition.
  • Assist in developing test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans and procedures.
  • Utilize various hardware and software technologies such as SAP, EDMS, data loggers, calibrators, and infrared cameras.
  • Prepare and interpret sketches, diagrams, blueprints, and other technical drawings.
  • Adhere to all environmental, health, safety, and process safety standards and procedures.
  • Report hazards, deviations, and injuries promptly.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and quality standards, and participate in quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, health, environmental, and training requirements.
  • Perform general housekeeping and maintain orderliness.
  • Provide job feedback to supervisors or leaders.
  • Complete all required training and regulatory testing, and attend safety meetings.
  • Support Maintenance Excellence and Productivity initiatives.
  • Engage in training initiatives to improve skills and assist others with training as needed.
  • Complete required testing within specified time frames.
  • Assist with additional tasks as needed, including On-the-Job Training (OJT) with a supervisor or senior technician.
