Primary Purpose:

Job Summary: This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper, professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions.

Primary Duties: (*=essential Functions)

  1. Patient Interaction & Patient Care:*
  1. Interacts with all patients using the level of respect and professionalism required by Center for Sight.*
  2. Obtains patient history, to include: chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications. *
  3. Accurately documents measurements, testing results and the patient encounter as well as relevant patient information.*

Documentation to include:

-Visual Acuity -Motility

-Manual and/or Auto Lensometry -Stereopsis

-Refractometry -Color Plates

-Pupillary Function -Angle Assessment

-Confrontational Visual Fields -Dilation

  1. Clinical Flow and Efficacy*
  2. Follows protocol on which patient should be taken next from the waiting room to be worked up. Any deviations from protocol must be preapproved.*
  3. Escorts patients to and from waiting areas using the patient’s surname.*
  4. Keeps patients informed of any potential wait times.*
  5. Following appointment, escorts patients from the clinical area to the check-out station or optical dispensary when necessary.*
  6. Maintains stock levels and cleanliness of exam lanes.*
  7. Seeks guidance from Supervisors and Providers as necessary, never performing beyond clinical capabilities.*

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED, some college preferred.
  • Two years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant.
  • Valid proof of certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred, not required.
  • Requires ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Requires strong computer competency including intermediate knowledge and experience with Excel, Word and Outlook (calendar/email) and the ability to easily learn and adapt to new software applications.
  • Requires exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to exhibit workplace civility and promote a positive work environment.
