Description

Under the direct supervision of the CEO, the Chief Engineer will lead the maintenance engineering function by providing direction, leadership and management for all maintenance personnel and all related contracted vendor services, ensuring that all employees and contractors are compliant with the mission, objectives, policies and procedures of the Company as well as all regulatory requirements.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for planning and directing the workload of the Maintenance Department in the plant, overseeing all plant related systems, equipment, facility, grounds and fleet maintenance operations at all company locations. Additionally, the Chief Engineer will be tasked with researching and making recommendations in the long-term capital and manpower resource allocation decisions.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plant & Fleet equipment:

  • Install, plan, maintain and repair all plant & fleet equipment. 
  • Develop and maintain a computerized data tracking program to establish a preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Track and monitor preventative maintenance costs and operating costs for each piece of equipment. 
  • Develop and implement computer methods, control systems and procedures to ensure a fully operational and productive preventive maintenance program, parts stockroom and inventory system.
  • Initiate actions to maximize equipment productivity and eliminate equipment breakdown to ensure cost-effective results.
  • Utilize innovative engineering and mechanical techniques in troubleshooting and maintaining equipment. 

Staffing:

  • Supervise, direct, coordinate and assign daily work schedules to ensure accountability for staff’s time. 
  • Utilize our current software system to record, track and maintain the work performed by individual staff members to ensure efficient and optimum work is being performed in a timely manner. 
  • In conjunction with HR, hire, train, evaluate, motivate, counsel and discipline maintenance staff.
  • Develop and maintain team environment within the department, and within the plant.
  • Ensure all company policy, procedures and company objectives are followed by both maintenance dept staff and outside contractors. 
  • Interact with other departments and department managers in such a manner as to maintain a positive, cooperative and supportive work environment

Safety & Security: 

  • Create and maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times
  • Ensure facilities are secure at close of business daily.
  • Responsible to unlock and initiate startup of production equipment and fleet in a timely manner, conducive to efficient operations of production and fleet.
  • Ensure buildings and grounds are properly secured and alarmed.

· Responsible for compliance of all Federal, State and local regulatory compliance issues.

· Responsible to ensure compliance and training of all OSHA related plant policy and procedures including Confined Space, Lock Out/Tag Out, Boiler safety, general pipefitting, electrical techniques and proper lifting.

· Utilize training to develop awareness and enforce safety standards throughout the department.

· Practice accident prevention to reduce and minimize workers’ compensation costs and control experience mod rating. 

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • College Degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of plant production /maintenance experience. (2 years’ experience in a laundry processing facility is preferred)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with proven success as a supervisor/manager overseeing a minimum of 10 subordinates. 
  • Ability to identify problems, troubleshoot, develop and implement corrective action plans in such a manner as to support production and minimize downtime

Technical skills

  • Demonstrated skills in engineering, mechanical electronic and electrical techniques.
  • Superior electronic and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics (American and European Standards).
  • Must understand basic metals joining and fabrication with the ability to fit the different types of piping systems
  • Ability to repair and replace pumps, seals, and valves
  • Must be knowledgeable in working with electricity; high voltage equipment (120/208 or 277/480 volts)
