Job DescriptionJob Description

Our Lorain County client is seeking Bookstore Cashiers for a part-time assignment for the month of August and September. The pay is $16/hr.

Position Summary:
Record and monitor inventory activity. Open and close store as assigned; open and secure safe. Operate cash register and reconcile cash drawer. Maintain order and cleanliness of displays and merchandise. Assist customers with inquiries. Procedures are standardized and allow little variation in task. Supervisor is generally available for assistance if needed.

  • Perform cashier duties, operate charge machines; enter data on computer systems; check out personal cash drawer at the end of each shift.
  • Reconcile cash drawer and charges to register sales tape to ensure that all funds are properly received and accounted for.
  • Insure daily accountability for all sales and returns transacted. Consolidate daily deposit for transmittal to the Bursar's Office.
  • Answer customer inquiries. Assist customers in selection of items. Answer phone inquiries from customers as needed.
  • Assist with merchandising and orderliness of displays. Clean, organize, receive, set up, remove and price merchandise as directed. Participate in physical inventory of stock as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as may be required.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Perform assigned tasks promptly and accurately
  • Maintain orderly stock of merchandise and work area
  • Interact with customers and associates in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Must be able to stand for entire shift.
  • Problem solving.
    • Must reconcile accounting records and must locate and correct any errors
    • Must direct customers to products as requested.

Qualifications:
High school graduate required. A graduate of a two-year college or business school with an emphasis in accounting or other related field preferred. Experience in a retail environment preferred. Must be able to use a calculator, data processing devices and a personal computer. Familiarity with Lotus, Excel or other spreadsheet programs desired.

  • 3 shifts available, with possible Saturday hours
