Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Buyer/Planner will play a critical role in supporting business operations by purchasing materials, components, and services essential to operations while managing top-level assembly planning. This role will focus on ensuring the quality, quantity, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of purchases, along with managing planning activities that balance supply and demand in alignment with production schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning and Scheduling:
- Manage Top-Level Assemblies and associated supply chain impacts, utilizing historical data, trends, and advanced planning parameters.
- Be part of the team Developing and managing the master schedule, utilizing capacity planning tools
- Identify and mitigate supply risks, while leveraging opportunities to optimize supply chain performance.
- Analyze MRP demand, adjust orders to real needs, and update item data to improve MRP accuracy.
Purchasing and Sourcing:
- Lead sourcing activities, from issuing RFQs to negotiating pricing and lead times within the broader purchasing strategy.
- Negotiate flexible supply strategies to meet cost and lead-time objectives while maintaining a strong relationship with key suppliers.
- Issue purchase orders according to demand and monitor open orders to ensure alignment with production planning.
- Manage vendor warranty claims, monitor vendor performance, and conduct regular PPV (Purchase Price Variance) reviews.
- Continuously drive cost reductions through strategic sourcing and negotiation.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead cross-functional discussions with production and fabrication teams, driving consensus and commitment to agreed-upon actions.
- Facilitate communication between vendors, production, warehouse, and internal stakeholders to avoid production shortages and ensure smooth operations.
- Coordinate meetings, prepare materials, and support solution development through effective team leadership.
Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement:
- Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies (Root Cause/Corrective Actions) to address issues, solve problems, and drive improvements.
- Foster a continuous improvement mindset, using data analytics and trend analysis to generate ideas and present opportunities for strategic development to the supply chain team.
- Proactively escalate issues when necessary and guide teams toward consistent, measurable results.
Strategic Development:
- Understand and align with product line goals and strategic direction, applying insights and analysis to support overall company objectives.
- Stay current on technical and supervisory skills by attending training, technical courses, and trade shows to bring fresh perspectives into the role.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
- Certifications: APICS certification preferred.
- Experience: 2-4 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment; strong ERP system knowledge (Epicor Kinetic preferred).
- Skills: Proven negotiation skills, advanced Excel skills, and strong written, verbal, and analytical capabilities.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence decision-making.
