Cycle Instructor

Job Description

Summary:

The Cycle Instructor is responsible for directing and coordinating cycling classes, instructing the participants about fitness and safety while keeping a safe and pleasant environment for class participants. Cycling Instructors must show a comprehension of useful fitness features, including warm-up, aerobic exercise, resistance, flexibility, and cool-down.

Qualifications:

CPR and First Aid instruction. At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes is preferred. Ability to work independently and efficiently. 

Supervisor:

The Cycle Instructor reports to the Recreation Supervisor in charge of fitness.

Essential Functions:

1. Provides a safe, energetic, and motivational environment for participants; assures participants are correctly using fitness equipment with correct form, function, and safety through observation of participants.
2. Demonstrates correct posture, alignment, and technique; delivers modifications of exercises to satisfy the needs of all participant levels safely.
3. Ensures the cycling area is clean and organized and all equipment is put away in its proper place.
4. Presents the Morton Grove Park District customer service to members and participants by maintaining a positive attitude and readiness to handle and direct questions and problems to appropriate Park District Staff.
5. Coordinate with supervisor to manage and schedule classes and activities.
6. Complies with the Morton Grove Park District group fitness administrative tasks that include properly clocking in and out while teaching class; finding substitute instructors when not able to teach a scheduled class; communicating promptly with the Fitness Supervisor on all issues and concerns about class duties; completes Morton Grove Park District Incident Report form when appropriate; complies with Fitness Classes.
7. Sustain open communication with the supervisor and participants.

4. Must be able to deal with people in stressful and demanding situations.

Physical Requirements:

1. General work area is indoors, in a smoke free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting.
2. Performs tasks that require walking, bending, cycling, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and sitting.

Cognitive Considerations:

1. Must possess good safety awareness and judgment.
2. Must be friendly and like to work with people of all ages.
3. Employee must listen, hear and speak.
4. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and

       the ability to adjust and focus.

Safety Responsibilities:

1. Must be able to follow direction from supervisor with safe and effective follow through.
2. Worker must be able to use good safety and awareness and judgment.
3. Worker must be able to participate in safety related trainings as required.

$30-35 Per Hour
