Job Summary:

The Head Mechanic reports to the golf course superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all golf course and club equipment. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, recording keeping of parts and labor needed for maintaining each piece of equipment, organizing and managing the budget, placing orders for parts and supplies, and assisting in organizing lease packages. The head mechanic effectively manages a team of assistant mechanics, communicates needs and problems with superintendent, and maintains a fleet of cutting reels. It is a top priority of the head mechanic to place safety first and be responsible for maintaining a clean service area and organized equipment yard.

Essential Job Functions:
Job duties include, although are not limited to:

  • Efficiently schedules and organized team of assistant mechanics
  • Effectively manages budget, uses PO system, and orders parts
  • Strategically prioritizes equipment repairs and maintenance schedules
  • Communicates with superintendent, department heads, factory service technicians, parts dealers, and members
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various equipment
  • Instructs and/or trains co-workers regarding preventative maintenance, proper cleaning and safe operation
  • Organizes and maintains preventative maintenance program within budget of all equipment, purchases repair parts and replacement supplies
  • Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and part inventory purchases, equipment conditions, cost of repairs and preventative maintenance for all equipment

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills; team orientated
  • Desire to serve and create lifelong memories
  • Previous experience as GCM mechanic required
  • Previous experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive or mechanical equipment
  • Ability to research and interpret documents such as safety procedures, service and parts manuals, operating and maintenance instructions
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, factory service technicians, parts dealers, and member and maintain business records
  • Personal set of tools required
  • Love for the game of golf preferred and understanding how job performance impacts playing conditions
  • Ability to comprehend instructions given in English or Spanish
  • Ability to work 5 days a week, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform a variety of task with frequent interruption
  • Perform job responsibilities and operate equipment according to the company safety and training programs
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession
  • Thorough knowledge of hydraulics, operation and maintenance of reel mowers

Physical Requirements:

  • Majority of tasks are performed outdoors in variable weather conditions, including hot, cold, windy and rainy.
  • Temperatures can be extreme but are usually moderate.
  • Frequently works near moving/mechanical parts.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to reach with arms and hands, bend and stoop, remain at post standing for periods of time, walk for a long distance, and is required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color and peripheral.
  • The noise level in the shop is usually moderate to loud.
  • Due to the busy nature of a garage, the associate must be able to routinely work well under pressure, remain calm, and be tactful with co-workers.
