JOB DESCRIPTION - LEAD CARPENTER
SUMMARY
The Lead Carpenter is directly responsible for the on-site project management and is required to possess the highest level of carpentry skills, run projects according to schedule and project budget, maintain jobsite safety and regular client contact, and ensure that company policies and procedures are upheld. This position is responsible for maintaining customer satisfaction throughout the project within the means of the construction contract.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
• Perform carpentry at the highest level as required
• Supervise laborers, apprentice carpenters, carpenters, and subcontractors, including participating in performance reviews. Make work assignments, monitor quality, and motivate crew. Must command respect of the work crew
• Expedite timely completion of the work to maintain schedule and budget goals
• Ensure jobsite safety, protection and maintenance of company tools, and enforce all jobsite rules
• Maintain regular client contact for duration of projects and assist with requested cost updates
• Train carpenters and apprentice carpenters
POSITION REOUIREMENTS
• Must meet and exceed all company carpenter requirements
• Minimum six years Carpenter experience
• Good communication, job coordination, and supervisory skills
• Extensive rough and finish carpentry skills and superior knowledge of construction methods and techniques
• Must have a good working knowledge of related building trades
• The ability to interact and communicate well with your crew, subcontractors, and the client
• Teaching skills
• Must be available for extended work hours as required
• Ability to perform physically demanding work on a consistent basis, including lifting 100 pounds
• Reliable work vehicle
• Driver’s license and good driving record
POSITION REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Read and interpret paperwork, including all plans and specifications, purchase orders,
subcontractor work orders, and cost updates. Bring questions, discrepancies, and unusual
conditions to the attention of the Project Coordinator via verbal and written
reports.
• Understand the scope of the work and discuss all requests for additional work with the
Project Coordinator. Understand and assist with the cost update procedure
• Verify and maintain compliance with local and national codes
• Participate in a pre-construction conference and jobsite inspections
• Maintain the job site binder, including rolling punch list
• Receive and inspect immediately all freight received on site for project
• Request help as required, anticipating the need for additional carpenters so that they can be scheduled in a timely fashion
• You are responsible for reporting late subcontractors, discipline problems, problems with schedules, and for keeping the Project Coordinator informed of job status
• Work with Project Coordinator to order materials and coordinate subcontractors. You must plan ahead for timely material delivery and subcontractor start dates.
• Responsible for end-of-day procedures, such as clean-up, weather protection and security. Must notify Clients in advance of utility service interruption.
• Provide for job safety for both the clients, subcontractors, and our employees. Inspect all equipment for proper safety features and correct any unsafe conditions
• Maintain discipline of employees and subcontractors on the job
• Responsible for all company tools on your job
• Miscellaneous other duties as required
