Job Overview: The Diesel Truck Mechanic at Tierra X Excavation will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of our fleet of heavy-duty diesel trucks. This role involves performing routine service, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring that all vehicles comply with safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diesel engine repair, brake systems, and electrical diagnostics, with a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in heavy-duty trucks.
  • Conduct thorough inspections to identify potential problems and perform preventative maintenance to avoid breakdowns.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used and time spent on each task.
  • Ensure that all trucks are in compliance with state and federal safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with drivers and other team members to ensure timely repairs and minimize downtime.
  • Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies needed for truck repairs and maintenance.
  • Stay current with industry standards, tools, and technologies for diesel truck maintenance and repair.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a diesel truck mechanic, preferably in the construction or transportation industry.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, brake systems, electrical systems, and heavy truck components.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a high standard of work.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred.
  • Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment and work in various weather conditions.

Work Environment:

  • The role requires working in both shop and field environments, with exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and varying weather conditions.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, and lift/move heavy objects.
  • May require overtime and weekend work to meet project deadlines.
