Job Overview:


An EKG (Electrocardiogram) technician, also known as a cardiac monitoring technician or cardiovascular technician, performs diagnostic tests to monitor and record the electrical activity of patients' hearts. The EKG technician is also responsible for setting up and maintaining EKG equipment and ensuring patients are always comfortable and informed. EKG technicians must attend to patient needs, which requires patience and caring.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct electrocardiogram (EKG) tests on patients at different locations.
  • Travel to designated sites to perform EKG procedures in accordance with established protocols and standards.
  • Prepare patients for EKG testing by explaining the procedure, positioning patients appropriately, and attaching electrodes to the necessary areas of the body.
  • Operate and maintain EKG equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality to produce accurate test results.
  • Monitor patients during EKG procedures to ensure their comfort and safety, addressing any concerns or issues promptly and effectively.
  • Record and document EKG results accurately, including patient information, test parameters, and relevant observations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and providers to communicate test results and assist in interpreting findings as needed.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all privacy regulations and ethical standards in handling sensitive medical information.
  • Follow strict infection control protocols and safety guidelines to minimize risks and maintain a safe testing environment for patients and staff.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to stay abreast of advancements in EKG technology and best practices in patient care.
  • Maintain accurate records of tests performed, including patient information, test results, and additional notes or observations.

Job Requirements

  • Education Minimum: High School diploma or GED Preferred: Some College or Healthcare Technical Schooling
  • Work Experience Minimum: Preferred: At least 1 year of experience in the healthcare industry
  • Licenses & Certifications (if any. If not, remove) Minimum: Preferred: Certification or training in cardiovascular technology.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understanding of common cardiac conditions and associated EKG patterns. Proficiency in operating EKG machines and attaching electrodes correctly.
  • Skills in interpreting EKG readings and identifying abnormalities.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate recordings and troubleshooting issues. Strong communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare teams. Ability to work collaboratively and follow instructions.
  • Compassion and empathy for patients undergoing cardiac testing.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and policies.
  • Prioritize health and safety practices.
  • Current driver's license in good standing.

Physical Requirements

  • Have mobility for setting up equipment and assisting patients. Lift and transfer patients safely, using proper techniques.
  • Demonstrate fine motor skills for accurate electrode placement.
  • Maintain stamina during long shifts and emergencies.
  • Display manual ability when operating equipment.
  • Endure physically demanding situations.
  • Prioritize health and safety practices

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.27 to 23.80 an hour.
