The Mental Health Diversion Team Lead is responsible for overseeing and providing diversion services and supports to individuals living with mental illness who are involved or at risk of being involved with the criminal justice system. This includes individuals who are participating in the Mental Health Court Program or otherwise mandated to participate in mental health services in HCMHDDC’s catchment area. The Mental Health Diversion Team Lead will provide supervision and guidance to the Community Diversion Coordinator. The position will also provide diagnostic assessment and recommendations on treatment that will be submitted to the involved court. This position will be required to be trained and certified in crisis intervention. Office hours are M-F 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, and extended hours one day a week; however, the position must have flexible hours to accommodate individuals who cannot meet between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. This position will require travel, home visits and service provision in community settings. This job is community based and requires the ability to work autonomously with little supervision.

You will get to:

  • Attends Court Staffing meetings and Court hearings.
  • Works closely with court staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provides clinical guidance, supervision, and recommendations to the Community Diversion Coordinator
  • Achieves an average score of 85, with no one score below 75 on all documentation.
  • Completes initial interviews and enrollments, providing diagnostic assessment, mental status exam and clinical recommendation for the courts.
  • Must provide collaborative documentation at least 95% of the time or no later than 24 hours after delivery of service.
  • Works closely with the Director of Forensic Services to establish effective workflows that can apply across the catchment area.
  • Will deliver services using the recommended Evidenced Based Practices recommended by HHSC.
  • Works closely with the Director of Forensic services in seeking and applying for grant opportunities to further develop the Mental Health Diversion programs.
  • Responsible for provision of crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Must be crisis certified within 120 days of employment.
  • Attends work regularly and as scheduled.
  • Works cooperatively with others and the supervisor
  • Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with team and individuals served.
  • Follow the agency’s workplace values and principles.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and privacy according to standards.
  • Follow policy and procedures for protecting clients as well as reporting client abuse and neglect if needed.
  • Protect and ensure client rights always.

You’ll definitely need:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social, behavioral, or human services.
  • LPC, LMFT or LCSW
  • Preferred: 3-5 years of experience working in a mental health setting providing community-based services within the community.
  • Experience working within a team setting.
  • Bilingual; English/Spanish preferred.
  • Live within 30 miles of clinic with reliable transportation
  • Valid Texas State Driver’s License
  • Current Automobile Insurance

We’ll also want you to:

  • Guards’ client confidentiality by being knowledgeable of and adhering to HIPPA regulations.
  • Adhere to all Hill Country MHDD policies and procedures.
  • Maintains CANS/ANSA certification.
  • Travel as required for service delivery and professional development.
  • Driving company or personal vehicle as required for service delivery and professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Manager/Director.

  • Employ excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with team and individuals in care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
  • Sustain a calm demeanor when under pressure to handle sometimes difficult situations.
  • Provide exemplary customer service and care to individuals with their best interest at heart.
  • Complete and maintain both CPR certification and Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
