Job DescriptionJob Description

Objective:

Provides consecutive and/or simultaneous language interpretation for limited English proficient (LEP) patients and families whose primary language is not English, as it relates to medical care. Provides sight-translation of relevant materials to enhance patients’ and families’ comprehension of medical procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care within the interpretation encounter. Is also responsible for the written translation of hospital documents, such as medical record forms and patient education materials, from English into target language as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience
  • Must be Certified & BILINGUAL in SPANISH & ENGLISH
  • Schedules Available: Full time - 40 Hours a week
  • Monday –Friday: 2:30pm-11:00pm
  • Pay Rate: $18.50/HR. + Great Benefits

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP

  • Participates in hospital educational opportunities for professional growth and improved service excellence.
  • Participates in hospital-wide quality improvement in relation to interpretation services.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The communication triad may include, but is not limited to, interpretation for nurses, nurse assistants, physicians, surgeons, technicians, clerical staff, auxilian staff, pastoral care, teaching staff, patient representatives, and mental health professionals.
  • Screens multiple requests for foreign language interpretation with effective time management; discerns necessity for remote-interpretation and/or in-person interpretation, as appropriate, and provides services; accordingly, collaborates with qualified auxilian interpreters for comprehensive accommodation of interpretation requests.
  • Provides accurate and complete sight translation services of pertinent materials for patients and families as needed in the interpretation encounter.
  • Provide short sight interpretation of written information regarding procedures and relevant services, pre-operative & post-operative instructions, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care materials from English into target language.
  • Effectively and tactfully serves as a cultural mediator, as necessary and when appropriate, to enhance communication between American culture staff and foreign culture patients/family, as it relates to medical care; strongly adheres to standard code of ethics for medical interpreters.
  • Maintains documentation of all interpretation encounters, to include relevant data such as location, duration, and purpose; supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of the interpretation services program.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.
