Preschool Associate Teacher

Walden School is a small, progressive, co-ed day school enrolling 200 students in PreK to 6th grade.
Our preschool program serves 30 children ages 3-5 with four full time teachers, 6 specialty classes, and part time staff to support professional meetings, extended care and prep needs of our teachers. We have a strong collaborative culture and a practice of team work.
You must be able to pass a live scan (no criminal convictions) and be available to work 12:00-6:00, Monday-Friday. Extra hours are often available.
Preschool/Childcare Experience and 12 Child Development Units are required.
The Walden preschool program runs concurrently with the elementary school schedule with school hours from 8:30 - 3:00 and Extended Care beginning at 2:30 pm through 6:00pm Monday through Friday. Walden operates a 10 month program, with a 6 week summer camp option for students. We serve a diverse population of wonderful families. This position will begin with an orientation on August 23, 2024.
The ideal candidate will work effectively as a member of a preschool team to plan all aspects of the preschool program. Qualified candidates should demonstrate a passion for working with preschool-aged children, a growth mindset, flexibility, a commitment to ongoing professional development and strong communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Collaborate with a lead teacher to implement developmentally age-appropriate activities for the class.
- Establish and communicate clear expectations for students inclusive of respect, collaboration, participation , community-building and problem-solving.
- Work with students in a democratic fashion modeling good citizenship, critical and creative thinking and responsibility as a classroom and school community member.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of child development ages and stages relevant to students in grade level.
- Act in a way that exemplifies and models the school’s expectations of respecting personal dignity, commitment to conflict resolution, and diversity.
- Work collaboratively with all members (i.e., children, parents, lead and specialty teachers, administrators,) of the Walden community.
- Complete required training each year (CPR, Basic Pediatric First Aid, mandatory reporting and all other licensing required training).
