Sawmill Supervisor

Carthage Forest Products is searching for a dedicated Sawmill Supervisor to join our new leadership team in Carthage, Arkansas. The ideal candidate will manage and oversee the daily functions of the sawmill including; all team members, day to day activities, managing the process flow, ensuring production meets quality standards and deadlines, and adhere to all safety policies, SOPS, and regulations.

Job Summary

• Lead all team members in the areas of production, safety, conduct daily meetings, and promote efficiency and collaborate with General Manager on process improvements.
• Ensure production goals are being met and use continuous improvement ideas to maximize profit.
• Monitor quality programs and perform quality checks to ensure that we are operating within our manufacturing specifications and guidelines.
• Coordinate with HR on the following duties such as; time keeping and payroll punches, counseling/ disciplinary actions, and safety reports/incidents.
• Assist in analyzing and troubleshooting maintenance issues.
• Monitor all of the day-to-day activities in the sawmill.
• Oversee the process of improvements and changes to help improve quality and production metrics.
• Assist in promoting a continuous improvement culture through communication and coaching employees as well as finding opportunities for streamlining production activities and enhancing value-added processes.
• Ensures safe work practices, follows safety procedures, completes all required safety forms from the EHS Manager, and checklists.
• Other Duties as needed.

Education/Experience/Certifications/ Licenses

• High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience is required
• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for extended periods
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds
• Able to work in a variety of environmental conditions

Work Environment Manufacturing Plant Physical Demands

• The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical sawmill environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise levels are moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Lifting and physical activity is required for this position, must be able to move boards and wood pieces. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds.
