GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PERSONNEL

Should love and enjoy working with children.

Shall complete Welcoming Each & Every Child, Mandated Reporter, CCAP, Shaken Baby Syndrome and S.I.D.S before employment begins.

Shall complete the required Health, Safety and Child Development Training mandated by the State of Illinois within 6 months of employment with the center.

Shall receive First Aid and CPR certification for age’s birth to school age within your 6 months of employment with the center.

Shall have a valid Illinois Driver’s License or State Identification.

Staff shall have the skill and competence necessary to contribute to each child’s physical, intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development. Factors contributing to the attainment of this standard include:

_ Emotional maturity when working with children.

_ Willingness to cooperate with the aims of the facility.

_ Respect for children and adults.

_ Flexibility and patience.

_ Physical and mental health which do not interfere with childcare responsibilities.

_ Good personal hygiene.

Child Care Staff, in addition to meeting the specific requirements for their desired position, shall demonstrate skill and competence necessary to assume direct responsibility for childcare.

_ Childcare staff shall demonstrate the skills to help children meet their developmental and emotional needs.

_ Childcare staff shall demonstrate skills in planning, directing, and conducting programs that meet the children’s basic needs.

_ Childcare staff shall be willing to participate in activities leading to professional growth in child development.

Prior to employment start date, the newly employed staff shall present the report of a physical examination, which took place no more than six months prior to employment on forms prescribed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Cooks, kitchen helpers, and others assisting in the preparation, serving and handling of food and cooking/serving utensils shall make their positions known to the examining Physician, and shall comply with the Rules and Regulations of the Illinois Department of Public Health pertaining to Food Service Sanitation.

Staff shall have physical re-examinations every two years, and whenever communicable disease or illness is suspected.

JOB DESCRIPTION: EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER

Early childhood teachers plan conduct education programs for young children. The Early Childhood Teacher of the MOM Child Care Center is responsible to the Director/Assistant Director. Included within these responsibilities are the following:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Shall complete Welcoming Each & Every Child, Mandated Reporter, Shaken Baby Syndrome and S.I.D.S before employment begins.
  • Shall complete the required Health, Safety and Child Development Training mandated by the State of Illinois within 6 months of employment with the center.
  • In addition to the General Requirements, the Early Childhood Teacher must have achieved:
  • Two years of credit from an accredited college or university with 18 semester or equivalent quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development from birth to age six; OR
  • Two years (3120 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center, one year of college credits with 10 semester or equivalent quarter hours in courses related directly to childcare and/or child development, and proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university until two years of college have been achieved. A total of 18 hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development is required to be obtained within the total two years of college credits; OR
  • Completion of the credentialing program of the CDA National Credentialing Award System (The Child Development Associate, 1982) with a current credential quarter hours in courses related to child care and/or child development from birth to age six at an accredited college or university, and 2 years (3120 clock hours) child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten or licensed day care center.
  • Persons who are currently employed as early childhood teacher and who meet the qualifications of the early childhood teacher position at the time of their most recent employment are considered qualified. Persons who are currently employed as early childhood teacher and are working toward becoming fully qualified for the position of early childhood teacher under the standards in force at the time of their most recent employment must continue to work to meet those qualifications until completed and shall complete them within two years of the effective date of this rule.
  • Shall have or will have obtained prior to 90 day evaluation 15 clock hours of workshops.
  • Shall be responsible in assisting the center director & assistant director with the managing, planning and supervision of the program and activities of the children, hiring, and orientation to newly employed staff, on-site supervision of all teaching staff. Orientation and training shall include health and safely procedures, planned program activities, and meal patterns at the center; and special health, developmental or nutritional needs of children assigned to individual child care staff.
  • Maintains open communications with parents to ensure good continuing relationships.
  • Works with teachers to establish material and equipment needs and priorities to meet program needs.
  • Provide feedback to the members of the team.
  • Maintain appropriate records.
  • Participate in center events.
  • Computer experience preferred (Microsoft Office, etc.).
  • Plan activities using a variety of materials and equipment to develop good coordination, social skills, creativity, self-expression and an interest in learning.
  • Plans the center’s daily activities and program.
  • Promote language development and self-confidence through story telling, drama, music and discussions.
  • Help to organize and participate in excursions to enhance learning experiences.
  • Encourage children to question and explore the world in which they live.
  • Constantly assesses the individual development of each child and identifies the individual and group needs of the children.
  • Observe children to evaluate and record their progress, and recommend appropriate programs for further development and to detect signs of developmental disorder, ill health or emotional disturbance.
  • Work with guidance officers, speech pathologists and psychologists, to assist children with special needs (if required).
  • Help integrate children with special needs into mainstream classes.
  • Promote health and safety concepts and social interaction with other children.
  • Promote an awareness and appreciation of the multicultural society in which we live.
  • Attend to sick children and those in need of first aid.
  • Comfort children who are hurt or distressed.
  • Assist children with their toileting and other personal matters.
  • Discuss with parents and other educators aspects of the child’s development.
  • Discuss with parents the aims of the education program.
  • Participate in community activities and parent/staff committees.
  • Order supplies.
  • Helps with the management of the center.
  • Supervise and work with student teachers and trainee childcare workers.
  • Supervises meals and sleep times.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
