Southern Nevada Trades High School is the first trades-focused Charter High School in Las Vegas. Through innovative career and technical training integrated with aligned academics, community partnerships, and individualized college and career-readiness planning, students’ passions for learning are ignited and they are prepared for success in postsecondary education and the workplace.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the CTE Construction Technology Instructor is to provide instruction in the construction and trades industry. Students will learn skills, knowledge, and abilities commensurate to the goals of the program while effectively using materials and equipment utilized in the construction trade. The CTE teacher is responsible for carrying out the assigned program that includes teaching vocational education/construction Nevada Department of Education content standards, career awareness, including industry standard safe working standards and practices, and assisting in developing potential workplace learning placements for high school students.
Qualifications:
· Ability to pass pre-employment criminal history background check and fingerprinting.
· Must possess a Nevada teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education or a substitute license (can apply for substitute license once hired)
· Ability to understand and implement the Nevada Academic Content Standards
· Strong commitment to improving academic outcomes for students.
· Demonstrates proficiency in communication, both oral and written, among parents, students, colleagues, and administration.
· Knowledge of positive classroom management techniques and discipline Practices.
· Inspires trust and models high standards of integrity.
· Is a “Team Player” who inspires others by example.
· A dedication and commitment to the mission of SNTHS prepare students for post-secondary education and careers in construction-related professions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Demonstrate the ability to develop, grow, and maintain a comprehensive construction program at the high school level.
· Embeds social-emotional learning opportunities for students.
· Proficient in instructional technology and has experience with a Learning Management System (LMS). Preferred
· Designs and implements relevant curriculum, provides pathway courses for CTE pathway completion, incorporates appropriate industry-recognized certifications and training, and works toward achieving the high-quality elements of Career Technical Education.
· Provides instruction that is appropriately paced and directed to specific occupational skills while accounting for individual differences in ability, motivation, and learning rates.
· Guides students in making career-related decisions and instructs students in appropriate job-seeking and retention skills.
· Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in a high school classroom.
· Ensure opportunities for all students to learn in a supportive environment.
· Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused learning environment
· Guide the learning process towards achievement of curriculum goals, using a variety of instructional techniques and strategies.
· Analyze student progress and provide appropriate instruction to meet individual student needs
· Provide a classroom management/discipline plan ensuring safety at all times.
· Respond to student and parent/guardian issues and concerns via email or telephone in a timely manner (within 48 hrs)
· Be available for all scheduled parent/ student meetings and conferences.
· Keep accurate and complete records of students' attendance and grades as required by state law and school policies.
· Participate in weekly PLC meetings and all scheduled professional development.
· Maintain and improve professional competence.
· Work professionally with administration, staff, parents, and community.
· Perform all duties as assigned by the Principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person, may need to lift arms to write on chalk or marking board, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach 0 - 24 inches and up to 36 inches above the head. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and exposure to screen(s) via technology. Hearing ability to monitor the activity and presence of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud such as when machinery or equipment is in operation. The employee may be required to move from room to room to provide instruction and may have to maneuver in crowded areas. Duties are typically performed indoors and occasionally outdoors, such as outside projects that may be taking place. The employee may be exposed to unpredictable weather conditions. This position is typically performed in a hazard-free, clean, and healthy environment; machinery and equipment will pose higher hazards than other positions
