1st Shift Monday-Friday

Responsible for the research, evaluation and purchase of ingredients, packaging materials and other items as requested to be manufactured into products. Process purchases within the company’s policies and procedures.

  • Evaluate available material quantities. Replenish Inventory and maintain MIX/MAX inventory levels. Submit purchase orders, confirm pricing and lead times, perform follow-up and maintain all documents. Coordinate with Production Scheduler & Sales Team on any delays in materials, Vendor MOQ and lead time information.
  • Monitors and analyzes the resin market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions.
  • Negotiate with vendors/suppliers for best costs and terms.
  • Provide copies of purchase orders and C.O.C.'s to receiving personnel. Work closely with Purchasing Assistant on weekly inbound shipments and PO’s.
  • Coordinate and arrange material pick-ups with warehouse personnel.
  • Maintain log of price changes and forward to Controller prior to each quarter.
  • Monitors price changes and informs Purchasing Manager of any price increase/decrease from STD Cost. Update and maintain Item Master information in system.
  • Procure raw ingredient samples and specification sheets for new items that will require approval by R&D Department.
  • Work with R&D and vendors to locate replacement ingredients that have become obsolete or discontinued.
  • Coordinate the return of rejected ingredients and the receipt of credits when due.
  • Coordinate and maintain extensions with Q/A.
  • Performs quarterly inventory entries and is the liaison between warehouse and production on inventory issues. Request cycle counts on materials to verify accuracy of inventory.
  • Attend daily production meetings, weekly Sales Brand Planning meetings and Co-pack Customer meetings. Attends annual food trade shows & perform occasional vendor plant visits.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Associate's Degree.
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations, Supply Chain/Management, or relevant preferred.
  • 3 -5 years experience as buyer in the food industry
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint – Intermediate Proficiency
  • English Language (Speaking/Listening/Reading)
  • Knowledge: Must have analytical skills for determining amounts of materials to purchase, negotiate with suppliers on a professional level and forecast material needs.
