POSITION OVERVIEW

NLC Mutual serves state municipal league risk pools throughout the United States with a focus on reinsurance, risk financing, and risk management needs. The Reinsurance Underwriter is responsible for underwriting a profitable book of national public entity business in 25+ states through risk assessment and pricing. This includes working in close collaboration with staff members, and pro-actively building relationships with current and prospective NLC Mutual members. The ideal candidate for this role will be an experienced underwriter of public entity business, an analytical and strategic thinker, a data-driven problem solver, a skilled presenter, team player, and proven relationship builder.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze and underwrite treaty and individual account reinsurance for workers’ compensation, property, and liability risks including risk assessment and pricing for profitable book of business.
  • Proactively build relationships with existing and prospective members to move the organization forward.
  • Develop/evaluate ceded and assumed insurance/reinsurance contract wording.
  • Conduct underwriting analyses around key business functions, metrics, and process enhancement across the entire book of business.
  • Work with and provides feedback to Actuary and Management for account management and to develop pricing for each account.
  • Assist in development and administration of ceded facultative and treaty placement.
  • Complete special projects and other related duties as assigned.
  • Make presentations to NLC Mutual’s Board of Directors, and with the boards/staff of individual members.
  • May supervise staff.
  • Travel required locally, regionally, and nationally.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum five years professional work experience in an insurance or reinsurance environment. Proficiency with Word and Excel applications also required.
  • Insurance/risk management coursework (such as IIA, ARe or CPCU) preferred
  • Firm understanding of insurance and reinsurance contract wording.
