About the Position: You are the expert…The HVAC Startup and Commissioning Technician is an integral part of the company’s HVAC service and installation team. The HVAC Startup and Commissioning Technician will be responsible for verifying the proper installation and coordinating the startup, testing and commissioning of all HVAC equipment on Company projects. The Technician will provide technical support to the Operations and Project Managers and will participate in project planning and scheduling.

The Company goal is to ensure superior equipment installation and proper operation serves as an opportunity to identify and correct problems before they negatively impact the successful and profitable completion of a project. The technician has responsibility for establishing the routine checks during installation and scheduling start, test and commissioning to ensure that projects are completed on time and to company quality standards. The Technician is also responsible for identifying pending problems, developing solutions, and scheduling and completing work as coordinated with the Project Manager.

The HVAC Startup and Commissioning Technician will have substantial training and working knowledge of all aspects of HVAC installation and service including mechanical, electrical, piping, and controls. This individual is the face of the company and must represent the Company in a professional manner with the customer. The technician must also adhere to Company’s standards for quality workmanship and superior customer service.

Job Duties and Functions:

  • Provide technical support to Operations/Project Managers on Company projects.
  • Participate in project planning and scheduling from the turnover to the closeout.
  • Utilize plans, specifications, submittals, and technical documents as required.
  • Travel to project sites to conduct periodic installation inspections.
  • Coordinate and schedule equipment start test and commissioning.
  • Act as a liaison between the project team and the service department.
  • Ensure proper all required documentation (such as reports and startup sheets) are completed and stored in the project folder.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of HVAC temperature controls and building management systems and have the ability to work closely with the Controls Department.
  • As required assist subcontractors, and independent contractors such as Balancers and Commissioning Agents.
  • Assist in customer training as required.
  • Coordinate post project turnover to the Service Department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in and understanding of commercial HVAC mechanical equipment and controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot DDC controls system components, field devices, control panels, and networking issues.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Read and understand blueprints and wiring schematics.

  • Computer skills and ability to learn software programs and applications.
  • Professional appearance and interpersonal skills to properly represent the Company in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.

Job Qualifications

  • CT HVAC Unlimited Journeymen's S2 License.
  • Technical school or Associate degree in HVAC.
  • 5- 10 Years of HVAC service experience.
  • This position is full time.
